This fragment may have been part of a seated statue of Augustus, created during the reign of his stepson and successor, Tiberius. Today, over 250 portraits of Augustus are known, and although relatively few bronze statues have survived, it is believed that there were as many bronze representations of the emperor as there were in marble. Although he is depicted in an idealized and timeless manner in this example, his features are individualized. He died at the age of 77, in 14 AD, but no portraits of him in old age are known. Handcrafted from stoneware, this reinterpretation presents the emperor’s head in a horizontal position, supported by a stoneware base.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"The Met","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58692565795197,"sku":"TM0067","price":673.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0947\/1141\/5165\/files\/bust-imparatul-augustus-finisaj-gresie-1_464a7fc4-3a57-44b8-81e0-1613cd9ffe4b.jpg?v=1789634925","url":"https:\/\/www.tasi.ro\/en-eu\/products\/bust-imparatul-augustus-finisaj-gresie","provider":"Tasi Home Studio","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
