In short
- The door: a wreath about half the width of the door, plus a garland around the frame if the entrance has a canopy or eaves.
- The garden and façade: large light-up decorations from our outdoor collection (LED trees, snowflakes, candy canes, stars), powered by an adapter.
- The covered terrace: lanterns rated for indoor and outdoor use, IP54 outdoor wall lights and battery-operated figurines.
- Safety: no makeshift wiring, nothing left plugged in when you go out, and adapters kept away from water.
With outdoor Christmas decorations, what matters is where each piece sits (under cover or in the rain) and how the power gets to it. We will take them one at a time: the door, the railings, the garden, the terrace and the façade. For indoor decor there is a separate article, our ideas for decorating your home for Christmas. Prices are those shown on the website at the time of writing.
What should go on the front door?
Put a wreath on the door and a fir garland around the frame. A wreath looks right when it takes up half to two thirds of the door's width.
Measure the door first. The proportions in the table are a working rule, not a standard:
| Door width (measured) | Wreath (1/2 – 2/3 of the width) | Examples from our catalogue |
|---|---|---|
| 80 cm | 40–53 cm | 45 cm wreaths |
| 90 cm | 45–60 cm | 45 or 60 cm wreaths |
| Double door, 140 cm | 70–93 cm | the 75 cm wreath, or one on each leaf |
Estimate for the garland around the frame: you need 2 × the door height + its width. For a 210 × 90 cm door that comes to 2 × 210 + 90 = 510 cm, i.e. two 2.5 m garlands (500 cm) placed end to end, with no part hanging down. If you want the garland to reach the ground, add a third.
The product pages for the green wreaths and garlands in our catalogue don't state that they are rainproof. That is why we recommend them for sheltered doors: under a canopy, under deep eaves or in an entrance porch. The green Full 3D wreaths come in 45 cm (99 lei) or 75 cm (159 lei), and the 45 cm snowy version costs 117 lei. The long-needle Full 3D garland is 2.5 m (210 lei, 269.40 lei with snow). All are in our garlands and wreaths collection.

On an exposed railing, use a light garland marked for indoor and outdoor use. Use a green fir garland only where the railing is under cover.
In our catalogue, the warm white LED light garland has "indoor-outdoor" in its title. It comes in 5 m (149 lei) and 10 m (179 lei). Estimate: if you wrap it around the handrail, allow about 1.5 m of garland for each metre of railing (assuming one turn every 30–40 cm). A 6 m railing therefore needs 6 × 1.5 = 9 m, so one 10 m garland. You will find more options in our light garlands collection.
On the entrance steps, keep the treads clear, especially in icy weather.
Which large decorations work in the garden and on the façade?
Large light-up decorations from our outdoor collection work in the garden: LED trees, stars, candy canes and hanging snowflakes. All of them are powered by an adapter.
- On either side of the gate or door: two tall, slim 210 cm LED trees (40 × 40 cm at the base, 973.20 lei each), or a pair of 160 cm candy canes on stands (1,805.40 lei each).
- In the middle of the garden: the 190 × 138 cm LED string-light tree (2,233.80 lei). If you want something smaller, the 120 cm tree with 1,800 LEDs (909 lei) works well against a wall.
- On the façade or the gate: hanging snowflakes, from 60 × 55 cm (361.20 lei), or the 190 × 200 cm rope-light LED star (6,090 lei).
- A small live tree at the entrance: the 50 cm gold planter (719 lei) is described as suitable for outdoor use too and can stay outside all year round.
The product pages for these light-up decorations don't list an IP rating. Place them where water doesn't pool and check the adapter label to see whether it can stay outdoors; if not, keep it under cover. All pieces are in our large outdoor decorations collection.

€29,95Which tree should you put outside?
Outside, use an LED tree from our outdoor collection. The Full 3D artificial Christmas trees with branches in our catalogue aren't described as outdoor trees, so we recommend them for an enclosed porch or the entrance hall.
A 180 cm Full 3D tree costs from 780 lei. To learn how to choose the height, needle type and lights, see our guide artificial Christmas tree: how to choose. For hotels, restaurants and commercial spaces there are also fully decorated trees, to hire (15 November – 15 January, installation and removal included) or to buy.
What should go on a covered terrace?
On a covered terrace use lanterns rated for indoor and outdoor use, outdoor wall lights and battery-operated figurines.
- Lanterns: the Richmond Interiors Danila, Daylin, Daisey and Dyara models are described as suitable for indoor and outdoor use and have toughened glass. Prices start at 710 lei, and all of them are in our lanterns and candle holders collection. Put an LED candle inside.
- Wall lights: Maytoni Bold (from 548.86 lei) is IP54, meaning protection against dust and splashing water, and is mounted by the entrance or on the terrace wall. The E27 bulb is sold separately. See also our outdoor wall lights collection.
- Figurines: the 95 cm nutcracker holds a small battery-operated LED tree (2,039 lei). Its description recommends it for a covered porch.

Outside, exposed to rain, leave only the pieces whose description or title states they are for outdoor use. Keep everything else under cover.
| Item | Where to put it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| "Indoor-outdoor" light garland | Outside, including on exposed railings | The title states it is for outdoor use |
| Large LED decorations (trees, stars, snowflakes) | Garden, façade, gate | They are in the outdoor collection; the adapter must be kept away from water |
| 50 cm gold planter | Outside, all year round | The description says so explicitly |
| Maytoni Bold wall lights, IP54 | On the wall, by the entrance | Protection against dust and splashes |
| Eichholtz Riserva wall light, IP44 | Covered outdoor areas only | The description recommends it for covered spaces |
| Danila, Daylin, Daisey, Dyara lanterns | Terrace, preferably covered | Rated for indoor and outdoor use |
| Wreaths, green garlands, velvet bows | Door under a canopy, porch, enclosed veranda | Not rated for outdoor use |
| Full 3D trees with branches | Enclosed veranda, hallway | Not rated for outdoor use |
The Riserva wall light shows that an IP44 product can be designed for covered outdoor areas, so read the description too, not just the IP code.
How do you connect outdoor lights safely?
Use only fault-free wiring and decorations, with no makeshift fixes, and unplug them when you go out. These are the fire service's own recommendations.
In a statement from the Iași fire service (ISU Iași) of 16 December 2024, firefighters advise against using faulty or improvised electrical wiring or decorations. They also recommend switching off the power to decorations when you leave home. And at a press conference held by the Bacău fire service (ISU Bacău), firefighters named faulty or improvised wiring as the main cause of fires. Their advice is to have your electrical installation checked by a qualified professional at least once a year. For the garden, this means:
- extension leads and sockets marked for outdoor use, not indoor office ones;
- connections and adapters raised off the ground, kept away from snow and standing water;
- cables that don't run through tightly closing doors or across the path;
- a qualified electrician for any new socket in the garden.
If you are in Satu Mare, see the light-up decorations in our showroom on Str. Aurel Vlaicu 88A (Monday–Friday 8–18, Saturday 10–18). Between 6 and 16 November, keep an eye on our Black Friday page.
Which Christmas decorations can stay outside in the rain?
Only those whose description or title states they are for outdoor use, for example the "indoor-outdoor" light garland or the 50 cm gold planter.
What size wreath should I choose for my door?
One measuring half to two thirds of the door's width. For a 90 cm door, that means a 45–60 cm wreath.
Can I put an artificial Christmas tree outside?
For the garden, choose an LED tree from our large outdoor decorations collection. The Full 3D trees with branches in our catalogue are not rated for outdoor use, so we recommend them for an enclosed veranda.
Which extension lead should I use for outdoor lights?
One marked for outdoor use, undamaged, with no makeshift fixes and with the connections kept away from water. Unplug your decorations when you leave home.
