The Met x Eichholtz presents the Heber bowl, a refined piece of modern decor, made of natural onyx.
This three-section bowl translates an ancient symbol of union into a strikingly modern decorative object. It is as practical as it is beautiful, with two generous compartments and a smaller section in the middle, making it ideal for serving, storing small objects, or simply as a sculptural centerpiece on a dining table, coffee table, or console. Carved from natural onyx, cool and luminous, with a naturally varied grain, no two pieces are identical, ensuring that each bowl is unique.INSPIRATION
The Heber bowl is inspired by a nephrite jade water vessel in The Met collection. Carved in China during the Qing dynasty in the 18th century, the original was a wedding cup, with a shape defined by two interlocking rectangles, symbolizing the union of two souls. It is a refined example of Qing imperial jade carving, in which extraordinary technical refinement served as an artistic and spiritual expression.
