The Lucca Decorative Column is inspired by a set of six marble columns crafted in Granada, Spain, between 1350 and 1400, now part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection in New York. The columns originally belonged to the Alhambra, Granada’s renowned royal palace complex, whose name means “the red one,” after the red clay used in its construction. The slender columns are characteristic of Nasrid dynasty architecture (1232–1492) and once adorned the courtyards between the palaces. Crafted from warm natural travertine, the Lucca Decorative Column becomes a museum-style display plinth.
