Description
Introducing the Chinnery chest of drawers, The Met x Eichholtz, a distinctive piece of furniture inspired by art.
This elegant chest of drawers pays homage to one of the great landscape traditions of the British Romantic period. The deep charcoal-brown oak veneer evokes the somber hills and shaded valleys of a landscape painting, while the bronze details catch the light. This subtle dialogue between darkness and warmth gives the piece its distinctive character. With two generous compartments, it is both an extremely functional piece of furniture and an object of genuine beauty.INSPIRATION
The Chinnery chest of drawers was inspired by a watercolor by George Chinnery (British, 1774–1852), now in The Met collection. Painted during Chinnery's years in Bengal, India, around 1808–12, the work captures cattle resting before a range of hills rendered in golden tones. The middle ground is pierced by a bright focal point and swirling plumes of smoke drifting away.
