Description
Glass globe Faberge Egg cream /gold 18cm, In the last decades of their reign, Russia's imperial Romanov family maintained a permanent connection with Peter Carl Fabergé to create Easter eggs – jewelry. Here is the story of the Winter Egg one of the most important 9 works of art that resulted from this remarkable commission. The Winter Egg 1913 Fabergé's curatorial director told the story of his favorite – "Definitely the Winter Egg," he recently said about the egg designed by Alma Theresia Pihl and given by Tsar Nicholas II to his mother, the Empress Dowager Maria Feodorovna in 1913. "I had the pleasure of holding it in my hands and studying it in detail. It was smaller than I expected, but the quality of its craftsmanship was overwhelming."The egg is made of rock crystal carved thin as glass. Beautified with engraving and adorned with platinum and diamonds to resemble frost, the egg rests on a rock crystal base designed to look like a melting block of ice. Peter Carl Fabergé continues to inspire jewelry and object designers even today
