The Library Coffee Table is inspired by the tables in the Thomas J. Watson Library, the research library of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The library holds a collection of over one million volumes, extensive digital collections, and online resources, making it one of the most comprehensive art libraries in the world. The library, along with an original drawing of a library table (c. 1753–62) by the renowned furniture maker Thomas Chippendale (British, 1718–1779), influenced the design of the Library Coffee Table, masterfully crafted in black veneer.
