The Florence Dining Table is inspired by a Catalan column shaft (c. 1130–40) located at The Cloisters, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s section dedicated to medieval art and architecture. The marble and stone column shaft, created in what is now France, is located in the Cloisters of Cuxa, reconstructed from fragments of the 12th-century Benedictine abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa. The Florence Dining Table adopts the serene, simple form of the column shaft in the museum, carefully reimagined as an elegant travertine table.
