Description

The Met x Eichholtz presents the Papyrus Dining Table, defined by a sculptural form and rich materiality, bringing timeless elegance to the heart of your dining space.

Crafted from refined brown oak veneer with an expressive, open texture, this table draws subtle inspiration from ancient forms. The base design evokes the organic geometry of a historic column capital from the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection, reinterpreted in a contemporary silhouette. Its presence is both solid and graceful, making it a distinctive centerpiece for refined interiors.

INSPIRATION

The Papyrus Dining Table takes its name and design inspiration from a capital decorated with a papyrus motif, which once crowned a column in a kiosk built in front of the Temple of Amun at Hibis, in Egypt's Kharga Oasis. Dating from 380–343 BC, the original column in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection combines stylized depictions of common papyrus with fennel-like plants—an early example of so-called composite capitals, which bring together decorative botanical forms in a cohesive design. Eichholtz honors this tradition by translating the rhythm and symmetry of the Egyptian capital into the sculptural base of this modern table.
