Description
The Met x Eichholtz presents the Papyrus side table, compact in form yet rich in detail, bringing sculptural elegance even to the most intimate spaces.
Crafted from refined brown oak veneer with an expressive, open grain, this side table reflects the spectacular design of the base found on the coffee tables and dining tables from the same collection. Its compact silhouette makes it ideal next to a lounge chair, sofa, or bed, offering both functionality and timeless style.INSPIRATION
The Papyrus side table takes its name and design inspiration from a papyrus-motif capital that once crowned a column of a kiosk built in front of the Temple of Amun at Hibis, in Egypt's Kharga Oasis. Dating from 380–343 BC, the original column, now housed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, combines stylized depictions of common papyrus with foxtail flatsedge plants—an early example of so-called composite capitals, which bring together decorative botanical forms in a unified design. Eichholtz honors this heritage, translating the rhythm and symmetry of the Egyptian capital into the sculptural base of this modern table.
