Description
The Met x Eichholtz presents the Papyrus coffee table, elegant in its volume and sculptural in form, a refined statement for any living space.
Finished in a rich warm oak veneer with a beautiful open grain, its design reflects the same sculptural style as the matching dining table. The sculpted base is inspired by a historic column capital from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, reinterpreted with contemporary finesse. Its balanced proportions and organic curves bring structure and warmth to a thoughtfully designed interior.INSPIRATION
The Papyrus coffee table takes its name and design inspiration from a papyrus-motif capital that once crowned a column of a kiosk built in front of the Temple of Amun at Hibis, in Egypt's Kharga Oasis. Dating from 380–343 BC, the original column at the Metropolitan Museum of Art combines stylized depictions of common papyrus with rush-like plants—an early example of so-called composite capitals, which bring together decorative botanical forms in a unified design. Eichholtz honors this heritage, translating the rhythm and symmetry of the Egyptian capital into the sculptural base of this modern table.
