Description

The “Recumbent Lion” artwork, inspired by its vigilant muse, captures a majestic moment in marble.

Handcrafted with precision, each piece is unique, featuring variations in color and veining. It evokes the symbolism of the lions that guarded temple entrances—a sign of royal strength and divine protection. Let this sculpture ennoble your space with its powerful presence, a reminder of the enduring forces that watch over the sacred.

INSPIRATION

The Recumbent Lion is a recreation of an Egyptian sculpture from the Ptolemaic or Roman period, depicting a recumbent lion (332 BCE–364 CE) housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Originally carved from limestone, the lion appears at rest yet alert, with its large, calm head facing the viewer. Pairs of lions such as this are known to have flanked the entrances to ancient temples. Lions were associated with royalty and suggested powerful protective forces over the temples and gods. This reinterpretation was hand-carved with mastery in white marble, giving each piece a unique color and natural veining. The sculpture rests on a white marble base.
