In short
- You have two options: ready-made bows that you simply clip onto the tree, or ribbon on a roll, which you make into bows and wind in a spiral through the tree.
- Width: 6–6.5 cm ribbon is for small bows, on baubles and branches; 10 cm ribbon is for large bows and for the spiral through the tree.
- Quantity, as an estimate: for a spiral around a 180 cm tree you need about 8 m of ribbon, i.e. one 9 m roll; for a 250 cm tree, about 13 m.
Bows and ribbons are the layer that ties the tree together: they weave between the baubles, fill the gaps and carry the colour from top to bottom. Below you will find when to choose ready-made bows and when ribbon on a roll, which width you need, how many metres to buy for your tree's size, how to make a looped bow and where to put them. The products in this article are in stock in the Tasi Home Studio catalogue at the time of writing (20 October 2026), with the website prices from the same day.
Ready-made bows or ribbon on a roll?
Ready-made bows are the quick option: you clip them onto the tree and you're done. Ribbon on a roll gives you more freedom: you make bows in the size you want and also wind it in a spiral through the tree.
- Ready-made bows, if you want identical, well-shaped bows and don't have time for handiwork. Clip them onto branches, wreaths or garlands.
- Ribbon on a roll, if you want a spiral through the tree, bows in several sizes or ribbon cascading from the top. The same roll leaves you some for gift wrapping too.
- Both, if you want a ribbon spiral and a few large bows in the same colour as accents.
Which ready-made bows are available?
Padded fabric bows of 30 and 50 cm, in burgundy and cream, a 22 cm pink velvet bow and a large 155 cm red velvet bow.
- The 30 cm burgundy decorative bow with leaves (49 lei), in padded fabric. Several burgundy bows among gold baubles give the tree a unified look.
- The 30 cm cream decorative bow with leaves (49 lei), for a tree in white, cream and gold.
- The 22 cm pink velvet bow with gold glitter (49 lei), for a tree in pink and gold.
- The 50 cm burgundy decorative bow with leaves (119 lei), large enough for the top of the tree, the front door or a large garland. It goes with the 30 cm bows from the same series, placed among the baubles.
- The 155 cm plush red velvet bow (639 lei), a large bow for the top of a tall tree, the front door or a staircase.

6–6.5 cm for small bows, on baubles, branches and presents; 10 cm for large bows, the spiral through the tree and wreaths.
| Width | What to use it for | Examples from our catalogue |
|---|---|---|
| 6–6.5 cm | small bows, bauble hangers, presents, napkins | ribbons with sparkly edges, 6.3 cm × 9 m (41.40 lei); brown and gold velvet, 6.4 cm × 5 m (389 lei) |
| 10 cm | spiral through the tree, large bows, wreaths, garlands | green velvet-touch ribbon, 10 cm × 9 m (82.80 lei); red check, 10 cm × 9 m (91.20 lei); double-sided Alkyon, 10 cm × 4.5 m (90 lei) |
For large bows that need to hold their shape, choose a stiffer ribbon: velvet or pleated ribbon holds up better than a thin material, which droops.
How much ribbon do you need for the tree?
As an estimate, about 8 m for a spiral around a 180 cm tree and about 13 m for a 250 cm tree, plus ribbon for bows.
Estimate, with the calculation: a 180 cm tree is 1.15–1.25 m wide at the base, so the circumference at the bottom is roughly 3.14 × 1.2 = 3.8 m. The tree narrows towards the top, so one turn of the spiral is on average about half that, i.e. 1.9 m. With 4 turns from top to bottom: 4 × 1.9 = 7.6 m, so a 9 m roll is enough. A 250 cm tree, 1.65–1.70 m wide at the base: 3.14 × 1.7 ≈ 5.3 m at the bottom, on average 2.7 m per turn, and 5 turns make 13.5 m, i.e. two 9 m rolls or three 5 m rolls. The base widths are those of the trees in our catalogue, from our guide to choosing an artificial Christmas tree.
For bows, count separately: a bow with two large loops in 10 cm ribbon uses roughly 1 m.

Make two equal loops, pinch them together in the middle with thin wire, cover the wire with a short piece of ribbon and leave two long tails.
- Cut roughly 1 m of 10 cm ribbon for a 25–30 cm bow.
- Make the first loop: fold the ribbon and hold it between your fingers at the centre. Leave a free tail of 25–30 cm.
- Make the second loop, the same size, on the other side of the centre. For a fuller bow, add another pair of loops.
- Pinch the centre with thin wire and twist it at the back. The ends of the wire are left for attaching the bow to the tree.
- Cover the centre with a short piece of ribbon, wrapped around and secured at the back.
- Cut the tails in a V or at an angle and open out the loops with your fingers.
For a bow with two sides that look the same, like the Alkyon ribbon (ivory with gold or beige with gold), it doesn't matter how the ribbon twists in the loops.
Where do you put bows and ribbon on the tree?
The spiral ribbon goes on after the lights and before the baubles; the bows go on after the baubles, in the remaining gaps, zigzagging from top to bottom.
- The spiral: start at the top, tuck the ribbon into a few branches, let it form a small wave between them and work down diagonally. Hide the end among the branches.
- The bows: as a guide, 10–15 bows of 30 cm for a 180 cm tree, placed in a zigzag rather than in a line. Attach them with the wire at the back or with the clip, if they have one.
- A bow on top: a bow of 50 cm or larger can replace the classic topper; let the tails fall over the top branches. For the classic options, see our article on tree toppers.
- Cascades from the top: a few lengths of ribbon tucked under the topper and left to fall straight down the tree.
The full order of layers (lights, garlands and ribbons, baubles, flowers, topper, skirt) is in our guide on how to decorate a Christmas tree.
Which special ribbons are available?
Velvet, embroidered or pleated ribbons, for a large bow on top, for wreaths or for a tree where ribbon is the main decoration.
- The brown and gold velvet ribbon, 6.4 cm × 5 m (389 lei), for bows, wreaths and presents; its warm tones go with pine cones and gold baubles.
- The white and gold embroidered velvet ribbon with gold cord and small mirrors, 5 m (429 lei), ideal for large, full bows that can replace the tree topper.
- The burgundy and gold pleated ribbon with embroidered leaves, 10 cm × 5 m (1,079 lei). The pleats give it volume, so it looks good on the tree, on garlands or on wreaths.

At the same time as the baubles, so you can match the colours; some ribbons have only a few rolls in stock.
From 6 to 16 November 2026, for Black Friday, the Goodwill, Shishi, Fiori di Lena and Tasi Home Studio bows and ribbons in this article are −40%. The percentages for each brand are in our article on Black Friday on Christmas trees and decorations. EU delivery is a flat €30 per order, so it makes sense to order the ribbons together with the baubles or the tree.
How much ribbon do I need for a 180 cm tree?
As an estimate, about 8 m for a 4-turn spiral, so one 9 m roll, plus roughly 1 m for each large bow.
Which ribbon width is best for a Christmas tree?
10 cm for the spiral through the tree and for large bows; 6–6.5 cm for small bows, on baubles and branches.
How many bows should I put on the tree?
As a guide, 10–15 bows of 30 cm for a 180 cm tree, placed in a zigzag rather than in a line.
Does the ribbon go on before or after the baubles?
The spiral ribbon goes on before the baubles, right after the lights. The bows go on after the baubles, in the remaining gaps.
Can I use a bow instead of a tree topper?
Yes. A bow of 50 cm or larger, with its tails falling over the top branches, can replace the star or the angel.
